Terms of service

What we promise, what stays yours.

Last updated 2026-08-10.

1. Who you are dealing with

These terms are the agreement between you and Kai Kran AS. Kai Kran AS is a Norwegian company (organisation number 998235065, VAT NO998235065MVA), registered at Blokkaveien 1c, 0282 Oslo, Norway. Kai Kran AS is the seller of the universe and the data controller for any personal information the universe stores.

Paddle.com Market Limited acts as the merchant of record for the purchase. Paddle handles the payment, the receipt and any tax due in your country.

2. What you get for 29 USD

A one-time, personal access to The Home Bartender's Cheat Code Universe. That is the full book, every world, every tutorial, every guide conversation, on the phone, the tablet and the desktop, for as long as we keep the universe online. Updates to the universe are included; you do not pay again for pages we add later.

Access is personal. Share the drinks; do not share the account.

3. What you get for a course seat

The Aspiring Bartender Course is a separate product from the book, sold by the seat. Prices are on the pricing page.

A seat is one named enrolment. It carries the six mini-courses, the quiz that closes each of them, one supervised final examination, and, on a pass, a credential issued in that person's name with a public verification link.

A seat belongs to one person and cannot be moved. A venue may buy any number of seats and hand out one link per seat, but the first person to open a seat puts their name to it and it stays theirs. That is enforced when the seat is opened, not by trust. It is the reason the credential means anything: a certificate that could be passed around would certify nobody.

It follows that a seat does not return to the venue when a bartender leaves. The credential belongs to the bartender who earned it, in the same way a qualification does. A venue that needs the standard held by a new person buys a new seat. A seat that nobody has opened is still the venue's to give to somebody else.

A seat that is refunded is closed, and a credential earned on it is withdrawn and marked withdrawn at its verification link. A certificate says that somebody paid for a course and passed it; if the payment comes back, the first half of that is no longer true. The refund page sets out the fourteen days and what they cover.

The examination is sat under a supervisor's code. We may withdraw a credential, and mark it withdrawn at its verification link, if we find that the examination was not sat by the person named on it. We will say why before we do, unless the abuse is severe.

We keep the course online and the verification links working for as long as we keep the universe online. If a credential's verification link ever has to move, the credential itself remains valid and we will publish where it moved to.

4. The free part, without an account

Chapter one and the Gin and Tonic tutorial are open to everyone without an account and without a card. You can read, make the drink and talk with the guide inside that scope, freely.

5. Your account

Signing in is offered, never demanded. You sign in with a magic link sent to your email; there is no password. Your reading position, your claimed drinks and your log follow the account across devices. If you never sign in, everything stays on the device you use, exactly as it is today.

You are responsible for keeping the inbox tied to your account under your control. If someone else can read your email, someone else can sign in as you.

6. Fair use

7. Your downloaded copies

The book can be taken with you as a download: the epub, and the phone and desktop readers. Each download is prepared for you by name, and is licensed to you alone.

By downloading a copy, you agree not to send, upload, post or otherwise pass it to people who have not bought the book, and not to reproduce its contents for commercial use. Every copy carries the name of the person it was made for, so a shared file points back to its owner. Sharing a copy in breach of this, or reusing its contents commercially, breaks these terms and the copyright in the book, and you may be held responsible for any financial loss it causes.

Making the drinks, and showing people the drinks, is always welcome. It is the pages that stay yours alone.

8. The guide

The guide is your live companion inside the universe. It is designed to be needed less every week. It knows the book, and it answers questions about the book. It is not medical, legal, or financial advice. Follow it or ignore it. Nothing it says overrides your own judgement about your kitchen, your ingredients and the people you are pouring for.

9. Drinking is your call

The universe teaches cocktails. Cocktails contain alcohol. You are of legal drinking age where you live, or you are here for the zero-proof pages. You do not need to drink more. You need to drink better.

10. Availability, not perfection

We work to keep the universe online and turning. Sometimes a server, a film host or a payment provider has a bad day. Short interruptions are part of a live product. If a fault lasts long enough that access is genuinely broken, the refund page describes what happens.

The universe is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we do not warrant that every feature will work on every device, every browser or every kitchen.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, we will post the new version on this page with a fresh date and email account holders whose accounts are still active.

12. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the universe at any time. You can ask us to delete your account and data through the privacy page. The refund page covers what happens if you paid recently and want your money back.

We can suspend or end an account that resells, scrapes or shares access, or that is used in a way that harms the universe or its readers. We will tell you why, and give you a chance to reply, unless the abuse is severe.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Consumer rights that the law grants you in your home country are not reduced by this clause. Where the law lets you choose, disputes go to the courts of Oslo, Norway.

14. Contact

Write to hello@bartendercheatcode.com. A person reads that inbox.
